Shiroyama Park (城山公園)
Located in the center of town, the ruins of the old castle lie on top of this walk-up mountain (map). A popular spot for cherry blossom viewing, this landmark remains a favorite year-round for those looking to enjoy the scenery.

Mount Atago (愛宕山)
Nobeoka is known for having easily accessible mountains that afford breathtaking vistas of the spectacular countryside and neighboring towns. Not too far away from Shiroyama is Mount Atago (map). Drive all the way up to the top to enjoy one of the best 100 top night views in Japan.

Mount Mukabaki (行縢山)
If you’re looking for a bit more adventure, Mount Mukabaki (map) may be more your speed. About twenty minutes from the city center, Mukabaki is a favorite hiking spot for day-trippers. Halfway up is a beautiful waterfall where you can rest before continuing to the summit for a spectacular view.

Sumie Beach  (須美江) and Shimo Aso Beach (下阿蘇ビーチ)
North of the city are two beautiful beaches, Sumie (map) and Shimo Aso (map), perfect for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing. Stay for an afternoon, or rent a cabin nearby for a whole weekend of sun!
