Volunteering Opportunity: Kisakihama Cleanup

Have an itch to volunteer, but need a break from the English thing? Would you rather save baby turtles than bad tenses?

Never fear! Jacki and MAJET are planning a cleanup at Kisaki Beach on March 26, and we need your help!

Kisaki Beach, though not as touristy as Aoshima, is one of the most popular beaches among local Miyazakians, especially among more experienced surfers. Hidden behind the Prefectural Sports Park and accessible only via very narrow roads, this strip of beach has been the site of many Miyazaki ALT BBQs, and is a great place to fly a kite, watch sea turtles nesting from May to August, or take selfies with huge falcons swooping down to steal your hotdogs.

But Kisakihama needs your help, because it is also littered with trash. During the last beach cleanup, we found cans, bottles, plastic bags, and even unidentifiable metal objects–all non biodegradable things that could trap and kill sea creatures or injure a beach-combing child.

Also, sea turtles. Wouldn’t you hate it if one of those tiny little cuties got caught in a plastic Lawson bag and couldn’t find his way to the ocean and life? Yeah, you’d hate it.

So help us beautify our tiny atlas and save tiny turtle lives at the same time!

After working hard, we’ll go to a unique organic buffet in nearby Kaeda for lunch at 11:30.

For people coming from afar, this might be a great chance to explore nearby Kaeda Valley in the afternoon. It’s a beautiful spot for a chill hike.
