What is MAJET?

MAJET is the Miyazaki chapter of The Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET), which is itself a volunteer organization affiliated with the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme.

The JET Programme is a Japan-wide organization backed by the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR). It has been giving skilled foreign English native-language speakers the experience of a lifetime since 1987. From that time, more than 55,000 participants have served in capacity as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs), Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) and Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs). JET is one of the largest exchange programs globally, and considered to be a true juggernaut in the quest for opening Japan up to the rest of the world.

In Miyazaki, there are approximately 100 JET participants. Our sunny, laid-back, and welcoming prefecture has an excellent retention rate, with many JETs staying the full five-year-contract course.

Much like AJET, MAJET promotes community and peer fellowship, provides support and resources, and does its darnedest to connect foreigners living in Miyazaki (especially JET Programme participants and private assistant language teachers) with each other and with the local Japanese community.

If you’re not a teacher or if you live outside of Miyazaki Prefecture, don’t worry! We’re open to anyone (local resident or foreigner) who’s willing to have fun and explore Kyushu and Japan. The more the merrier after all, so if you’re in town or have questions, get in touch with us!
