The Doll Festival / Girls’ Day ‘Hinamatsuri’ (ひな祭り)
This festival is held all over Japan and celebrates girls in the family as well as the coming of Spring. For about a week and a half traditional dolls, which represent the Emperor, his family, and court, are displayed. The main festival day occurs on March 3rd, and on this day families often take photos of their daughters dressed in traditional yukatas. Aya is a nice location to enjoy the Hinamatsuri.
