Takachiho is in the northwestern part of Miyazaki and centered in the Kyushu Mountains. The de facto “capital” of Nishiusuki-gun, this town town offers some of the best sights in all of Miyazaki: Nightly Yokagura (夜神楽) dances, the Takachiho Gorge (高千穂峡), and a hike down into Amano-Iwato shrine (天岩戸神社).
