Amazing Adventures in Aoshima!

While rain threatened most of the week, we had clear sunny skies all day long for this year’s Amazing Race, and an amazing event it was!

The participants arrived bright and early–all 74 of them!–eager and ready for a day of fun games and challenges. This was definitely our biggest race yet! We were very happy to see so many local college students participating and getting a chance to have some real-world encounters engaging with foreigners.

The Amazing Race 2017: Spirited Away to Aoshima, Hyuna’s Animated Adventure

The time has finally come for the Sixth Annual Amazing Race Miyazaki! This is one of our biggest events of the year. Some of you may already be familiar with the American TV show, The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race Miyazaki is loosely based around this televised competition. In this event, teams race to solve clues, complete challenges, and earn points!

Each year, MAJET chooses a new theme and different locations around Miyazaki City for their challenges to take place, giving participants the chance to discover new secrets about the city. This year, the race will be based in Aoshima, and each challenge and their clues will take you on a journey through the animated worlds of Studio Ghibli and Disney! Continue reading

花見 Hanami: Cherry Blossom Viewing in Miyazaki

Spring has sprung, and soon the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom! Sakura blossoms symbolize many things, especially for students and teachers. The bittersweet ending of a school year when graduates move on, students change classrooms, and teachers are transferred to new schools. The excitement of a new beginning or a fresh start in a new place. All overshadowed by the fleetingness of the sakura blossoms, reminding us to enjoy things while we can, for nothing lasts forever. MAJET’s Amazing Race was started by a group of ambitious JETs who came together to create an event that would combine the knowledge and experience of both English and Japanese speakers by bringing together Japanese and Western culture via a yearly theme. Let’s Support Kumamoto!

Good morning, MAJETers

As you all know, our neighbors in Kumamoto have been experiencing terrible earthquakes. We’ve felt the aftershocks ourselves, but we can’t begin to imagine what our friends near the epicenter are going through. Buildings have crumbled, roads have collapsed, even Kumamoto Castle has suffered damage as a result. But it’s not just the structures, it’s what they represent. Those buildings were homes; those roads were access to food, shelter, friends, and family; the castle is an important piece of cultural history. And none of these things can even compare to the loss loved ones and friends.
