Your invitation to Sumo 2014 in Fukuoka!

Hakkeyoi はっけよい! *

Sumo is the national sport of Japan and there are six grand sumo tournaments each year. One of them is held here in Kyushu; specifically, in Fukuoka. While November may feel like it’s still a ways away, MAJET is extending you an invitation early to guarantee that we can get the best tickets possible to the tournament’s grand finale.

Here’s our invitation:

Let’s spend a weekend in Fukuoka!

On Saturday, November 22nd, we’ll meet in Fukuoka for dinner and a night on the town. MAJET is still finalizing the details of where we’ll be eating, but you can count on good food and drink, plus the excellent company.

Then, on Sunday the 23rd, we’ll attend the sumo tournament’s finale at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center from 1:00-6:00PM.

Cost:

The Sumo event is the largest and priciest MAJET event of the year. Sumo tickets cost 10,000円. However, included in that price is a very comfortable box seat with spectacular views of the referees, rikishi (sumo wrestlers), and the intricate details of sumo like the ceremonies, tsuna (the 15kg rope worn by the grand champion), keshō-mawashi (the loincloth fronted with a heavily decorated apron), and much more. It truly makes for one of the most memorable cultural experiences of this nation.

The cost of dinner has yet to be confirmed, but is anticipated to be about 3,500円 yen with nomihoudai, as it was last year.

Additional Information:

MAJET is only organizing the purchase of sumo tickets and dinner arrangements. Attendees will be responsible for their own transportation and accommodations. MAJET will provide information on public transport and accommodations to those who’ve RSVP’d. If you’re going, please plan ahead and book a hotel or place to stay at your earliest convenience, and begin planning on public transport or carpooling.

PLEASE RSVP
ONLY IF YOU ARE GENUINELY SERIOUS ABOUT GOING.

Organizing this event is tricky. Take some time to consider before sending in the RSVP form and please try to make sure you won’t have anything interfering with your decision later on.

The RSVP deadline is Wednesday, October 1 at 5:00 PM.

As we have to purchase the tickets in advance, we cannot cancel any reservations beyond the RSVP deadline. If you RSVP, you will be financially responsible for your ticket.

More details will be coming soon. We hope you can join us and are looking forward to seeing you in Fukuoka!

*This is a phrase shouted by a sumo referee meaning “Put some spirit into it!”
