The Amazing Race 2018- Call for Volunteers!

Hello hello! It’s time to plan this year’s Amazing Race Miyazaki!

If you’re not sure what the Amazing Race is, check out our past blog posts!

The event will be held on Saturday, April 14th, 2018. To keep things fresh, we’ll be moving from last year’s location in Aoshima back to central Miyazaki City. This year’s theme is something magical (we think you’re gonna love it!), but we need your help to make it a reality.

Here’s how you can help:

Make a Challenge: Create and test a challenge based on our theme and prepare the materials. Challenges can be physical or mental, and should be bilingual-friendly. We’ve got a few ideas already, so if you’re not comfortable making one up but want to help someone else out, that’s an option too!

Write Clues: Because each challenge location is a secret, we need to write some clever clues to get people from A to B. These clues need to be bilingual-friendly, so proficiency in Japanese would be grand! A working knowledge of the geography of Miyazaki City is also a plus, but not absolutely required.

Graphic Designers: One of the things that helps us really sell our themes each year is the great art that goes with it! We need some creative souls to make our logo, design our challenge cards, and any other design needs.

Day-of Helpers: Most importantly, we need people to help us run the event on the day. We’re planning about 10 challenges and need at least 2 people for each one, plus some to spare for especially hands-on tasks. The event will run from about 9:00am until 5:00pm (ending times may vary depending on how quickly participants finish the race).

This year we are once again working with MCIA to coordinate the event, and they have graciously offered to apply for daikyuu on behalf of any JET volunteers. However, please note that this request only applies to JET volunteers, and that neither MAJET nor MCIA can guarantee whether your Contracting Organizations will grant the request.

Please Note

Volunteering for the Amazing Race means that you cannot participate in the race as a contestant. So please think carefully before signing up.

Volunteer!

If you’d like to volunteer for this year’s Amazing Race, please fill out the form below by Friday, March 2nd. If you miss the deadline, you can still volunteer, but we cannot guarantee that MCIA will have time to arrange daikyuu applications after this date.
