If you love eating chicken even more than you love playing with chickens, Nobeoka is the place to be! Not only is it the birthplace of the famed Chicken Nanban, but there are also other delicious varieties including jidori (mixed-breed domestic free-range),  and even the raw kind if you dare!

Naochan (直ちゃん)

The birthplace of Chicken Nanban, Naochan (map) is the original creator of the ever popular dish. The owners claim that the original recipe does not use tartar sauce, but there is nothing disappointing about yours coming without. One of the best-kept secrets of Nobeoka, Naochan is open daily for lunch from 11:00-2:00 and dinner from 5:00-8:00. Come early on weekends – it’s rare for there not to be a line out the door!
