2018 SDC Otsukare Banquet

This year’s ALT Skills Development Conference, on February 2nd, will mark a full day of presentations and brainstorming. To celebrate making it through such an arduous day, MAJET is throwing a party to say Otsukaresama!

Meet us at the delectable international buffet Manmaaru for an ‘Otsukare Banquet’. The tabenomi houdai will include delicious dishes from Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, India, the Phillipines, and Morocco, and even caters to various allergy and dietary requirements. There will be meat-free options and allergen and gluten labelled dishes so you can enjoy a carefree dining experience. Continue reading

Here’s looking at you, kid

The rainy season is upon us and with it comes Daiso humidifiers, hydrangeas, mould, and bittersweet farewells. Before our new and old friends leave Miyazaki for bigger, better things, let’s end it with a bang at the 2017 Farewell Party. Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, our leavers will be walking into Aoshima’s Cafe Zeal to listen to Sam play it again. While we all eat and drink way too much, we’ll know that’s it’s not goodbye, it’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Midyear Madness!

The Skills Development Conference is an event much dreaded by many JET ALTs. So, to help everyone recover from a long day of discussions and workshops, MAJET hosts the annual Midyear Party. This year, ALTs, CIRs, and our friends came together at Miyazaki City’s Weather King, which we had transformed into a Vegas-style Club! Continue reading

Vegas, Baby!

Friday the 20th of January, MAJET invites you to the only (and therefore best) club in Miyazaki for our Vegas Night!

We’ll be filling Weather King with all the glitz and glamour of Vegas, as long as that glitz and glamour is available at Daiso.

We’ll also be issuing everyone chips that they can use at one of our gambling tables. The person who has the most chips at the end of the night will win a prize. Be careful however; if you bust out, you’re not going to get any more chips. Risk it all to win it all! Continue reading

Whodunnit?

It was a cold, dark, drizzly evening when we rolled into Sakatani in late October. Our dear friend, Rick Rochester, had suddenly passed away, and his lawyer, Reilly Ravish had called us all together for the will reading.

A lovely dinner was set out when we arrived, and we spent the evening reminiscing about our friend, wondering about the circumstances of his death, and, most importantly, pondering the contents of his will.

Ms. Ravish had just read the will when, suddenly, the lights went out! A loud gunshot sounded through the darkness and a flurry of panic ensued. Once the power was restored, we found one of our number motionless of the floor, murdered. Continue reading

On a Deserted Island: MAJET and KAJET’s Shipwrecked Adventure!

The autumn equinox has come and passed, and now it is October. While the heat may hang around for a while yet, it’s time to say goodbye to our dear friend, summer. But not without one final adventure!

MAJET and KAJET teamed up to organize a joint beach party at beautiful Ajiro Beach near Makurazaki, Kagoshima. This beach is only accessible by ferry, with only a distant lighthouse to remind you of civilization. The water is clear and cool and full of fish and coral to explore! Continue reading

Shipwrecked in Makurazaki!

School may be getting back in session, but the heat is still going strong and will through the end of September. Why not come enjoy one last beach adventure before the summer sun officially fades away? This year, MAJET and KAJET are teaming up to bring you the best beach party in Block 11: Shipwrecked in Makurazaki! Continue reading

Join us for the 2016 Welcome Party!

Can you believe that August is soon upon us?  Neither can we!  But with summer vacation just around the corner, that means it’s time to meet a new batch of Miyazaki JETs! Please join us for one of the biggest events of the year—the Welcome Party!

This year, we are giving the new JETs a crash course on Japanese cuisine by having our welcome party at Kurogiya, a cozy izakaya on Tachibana-dori.  After we have enjoyed their delicious set menu and taken full advantage of their 3 hour nomihodai (all you can drink), we will continue to party the night away by hopping over to K-Bar, a popular nightspot within the JET community.
