Masquerade!

Hey there, Miyazaki! In just a few short weeks all of the ALTs will gather for the annual Skill Development Conference. The senpai ALTs are all busy preparing their demonstrations and workshops for the first-years, and it looks like there will be many great topics this year!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there, but we are even more excited for what comes after. After all, the best way to decompress and unwind after a long day of presentations and workshops is to have a big party! MAJET is really excited about this year’s theme, and we hope you are too.

So, without further ado, MAJET would like to invite you to the

Midyear Masquerade!

Let’s Volunteer at the Miyazaki International Christmas Market!

Hey there! Are you sticking around the ‘Zak for the winter holidays and looking for a way to experience some holiday festivities? Do you enjoy volunteering and spending time with kids? Look no further than Miyazaki Municipal University!

With the help of Sascha Klinger (former Miyazaki City CIR), the folks at Miyazaki City Hall, and your very own MAJET, MMU is hosting the 5th Annual Miyazaki International Christmas Market!

Sascha began the tradition five years ago, and each year proves to be better and better. Much more than a mere market, this event boasts stage performances, special holiday workshops, festive treats, and more!

The 2014 Welcome Party!

Each new year brings with it a slew of new JETs from far and wide. In honor of them, MAJET throws a big Welcome Party at the end of August. The occasion is generally grand and boisterous, and this year was no exception!

We held the event on August 22 at Barno2gatsu, on the second floor of the Miyazaki Art Center building downtown. The space was a bit cozy, but everyone had no problem mingling with each other.

The new JETs were identified with leis, though we suspect some may have migrated to other owners before night’s end.  😉 We also welcomed some non-JET foreigners to our lovely community and, of course, were happy to include our Japanese friends as well!

Aoshima Beach Barbecue and Campout!

Hey Miyazakians!

It’s that time of year again. School is getting back in swing and the summer heat is (hopefully) beginning to tone down. That also means its time for the Annual MAJET Aoshima Beach Barbecue and Campout!

Last year’s event was a smash! The weather was great, the water was warm―the sky was so clear that we were even favored with numerous meteor sightings! Let’s keep the tradition going this year!

Join MAJET at Aoshima Beach on Saturday, September 27 as we gather for one last bit of summer fun! The party will begin at 4:00pm, and we’ll get the barbecue going around 6:00pm.

There is no cost to attend this event! Just bring your lovely selves along with whatever food, drinks, and supplies you’ll need to fuel your wild beach antics. Continue reading

Welcome Fellow Miyazakians!

With the start of the new JET year and the arrival of so many lovely faces to Miyazaki, MAJET wants to extend a special hello to all the new JETs who have just arrived to this beautiful part of the world. You may be weary-eyed from long flights, jet lag, and an intense few days at Tokyo orientation, but we want to make time to welcome you with open arms (Miyazakians are very welcoming) and wish you all that’s best as you get on your feet over the next few weeks.

HELLO FRIENDS!

Now that you know you’re not alone out here (woohoo!) and you feel fuzzy and warm inside (you do, right?) its time for the stuff. New friends, this post is mainly for you, though there are probably some senpais who would appreciate it as well.

In preparation for your arrival, we asked your senpai JETs for any useful tips or advice to pass on to you to help you settle in to your new homes. While every situation is truly different (believe us, we hate saying it as much as you hate hearing it), hopefully their stories will make you feel less alone, and their advice will help you feel more prepared to take on the many new challenges you will encounter in your first few weeks.

The 2014 Leavers’ Party

The fourth of July was certainly a day to remember for many Miyazaki JETs. While those leaving us may not be returning to their homes until later this month or next, July 4 was the night when many ALTs, CIRs, and their non-JET friends came together for one last hurrah to honor our dear friends at the MAJET Leavers’ party.

This was the first event for the new 2014 MAJET Board, and it sure was a  blast! The party was held at Sky Gold on Tachibanadori in Miyazaki City. The space was cozy and classy, but not too formal, allowing the party-goers to dress up or dress down as they chose. Many people from all over Miyazaki came to celebrate and say goodbye to their friends.
