It was a cold, foggy afternoon when MAJET ventured to the heights of Ebino for a Valentine’s Day skating session. Engulfed in fog, you couldn’t even see the people skating on the other side of the rink!

Hello, friends! February is here, which means red hearts and chocolates are popping up everywhere. This Valentine’s Day, we shyly invite you to go on a skate with us.

Whether you already have someone special you wanna bring or you just wanna chill with friends, we can promise you’ll feel warm inside as you enjoy the last bit of cold outside. We’ll meet at the ice rink to glide (or chair or fall) across the ice, and afterwards those who like hot baths can hit up one of the many nearby onsen to relax. Continue reading
Midyear Masquerade: A Night at the Movies
Winter is such a dull time, even in Miyazaki. We get so used to the sun for most of the year that the shortened days really take their toll. Because of this, our midyear party is an important event to get people out of their houses and raise spirits. This year we decided to switch up the masquerade a bit by giving it a theme: A Night at the Movies! Continue reading
2016 Miyazaki Amazing Race – Call for Volunteers!

Hello fellow Miyazakians!
We are proud to announce the Fifth Annual Amazing Race! It will be held on Saturday, April 16th in Miyazaki City this year, so mark your calendars! We are also excited to announce this year’s theme: video games!
The Amazing Race was started by a group of ambitious JETs who came together to create an event that would combine the knowledge and intellect of both English and Japanese speakers by combining Japanese culture and a yearly theme. It’s an exhilarating event that has people from Miyazaki (and even Kumamoto, Oita, and Kagoshima!) racing around the city for the chance to win fabulous prizes, serious bragging rights, and just have an awesome time!
Foreigners and locals team up to complete themed challenges around Miyazaki City just like on the TV show. It takes a lot of planning and creativity to make it fun for all, so we are looking for as many people as we can to help out!
We are looking for 25 volunteers at this time. Please note that volunteering to help means that you cannot participate in the race as a contestant.
The volunteers will be divided up into Planning Volunteers and Day-Of Volunteers. If you are interested, you can volunteer for one or both positions.
Planning Volunteers will be the masterminds behind the event. We are looking for creative and energetic individuals to help us develop everything from challenges and tasks to artwork, designs, and even props! The time commitment for those in the planning group will span for the weeks leading up to the race and can be very flexible depending on what you are able to manage. Even if you only have a little bit of time to give but still want to help, that’s absolutely ok!
Day-Of Volunteers will be the ones running the show on the day of the race, operating stations and ensuring that the contestants are completing their tasks. The race is anticipated to run from 09:00 to 17:00 with morning/afternoon shifts to choose from. As part of our friendship with the Miyazaki International Center, there is a possibility of earning daikyuu if you volunteer the day of the race. (However, it is ultimately up to your schools to decide if they will give you daikyuu or not.)
Volunteer Now!
If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this google form by Sunday, January 31st.
Remember, volunteering means that you will not be able to participate in the race, so please consider carefully before making your decision.
Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test,
Your humble MAJET Team
`Twas the 6th Annual Christmas Market
‘Twas the night before Market, when in ‘Zak City,
Seven sleepy elves gathered to make cookies pretty.
The icing was dried in Chelsea’s kitchen with care
In hopes that the cookies would sell with great flair.

Paparazzi at the ready…
Merry Christmas Miyazaki! We hope you’re all having a fantastic last few days at work and are all ready and packed for whatever seasonal adventures you have planned! Meanwhile, in the MAJET world, plans for our annual Mid-Year Party are well underway and we would like to take this opportunity to extend to all of you an official invitation to… Continue reading
Miyazaki’s mountains are truly marvelous
Miyazaki’s only autumn colors belong to a variety of subtropical flowers which somehow manage to bloom, and to the trees and foliage which only become slightly less green even in the cold winter months. However, if you were to venture up into the mountains in the west of the prefecture, you would find vibrant patches of vermillion interspersed with swathes of gold gilding the mountainside—along with the usual vast expanse of deep forest greens. Volunteer Opportunities at the Miyazaki International Christmas Market 2015
It’s the most wonderful time of the year–when KFC just doesn’t cut it and homesickness sets in. Beat that blue Christmas with some volunteering! It’s the perfect way to jingle mingle in the true spirit of the season.
With the help of Sascha Klinger (former Miyazaki City CIR), the folks at Miyazaki City Hall, and your very own MAJET, Miyazaki Municipal University is hosting the 6th Annual Miyazaki International Christmas Market!
Sascha brought the European tradition to Miyazaki six years ago, and each year it gets better! Even if you come as a mere spectator, you can enjoy Christmas treats from around the world, fun workshops, and stage performances. Continue reading
