New pages and refreshed content – come check out what MAJET is working on

Greetings, Miyazakians!

MAJET strives to make your time in Miyazaki the best experience it can be.

In addition to all the rad events we plan, we are also constantly working on the MAJET website to provide you with the best content possible about life and work in this vibrant prefecture. In the past year we have developed the blog, which covers a variety of topics including MAJET Events, Japanese history and culture, and more! We have also developed the Events in Miyazaki calendar, which is updated monthly with festival and event information around the prefecture. Continue reading

Now’s your chance to make it all happen!

It’s time for a new MAJET Board to take the reins for 2015-2016!

Call for Volunteers!

We are proud to announce the Fourth Annual Amazing Race! It will be held on April 18th in Miyazaki City this year, so mark your calendars! (Please note that we originally had this planned for March, but have since changed the date to April!!)

The Amazing Race is an event based on the popular TV show (Japanese explanation here) of the same name. The yearly event was started by a group of ambitious JETs who came together to create an event that would combine the knowledge and intellect of both English and Japanese speakers by bringing together Japanese culture and a yearly theme. This year’s theme is still a secret (shhh! 😉 ), but past themes have been based on popular books, TV shows, and movies.

Let’s Skate!

Hello, friends! It is now February and the plum blossoms are beginning to bloom, which means spring is just around the corner! It’s almost time to pack up the winter clothes and break out the spring jackets.

However, winter is still hanging on in the highlands, where there is even a bit of snow! So why not join us for one last winter bash? Come join MAJET for their annual ice skating trip in Ebino! We’ll meet at the ice rink to skate our hearts out, and afterwards we can head over to the onsen to relax before making our ways back home.

Masquerade!

Hey there, Miyazaki! In just a few short weeks all of the ALTs will gather for the annual Skill Development Conference. The senpai ALTs are all busy preparing their demonstrations and workshops for the first-years, and it looks like there will be many great topics this year!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there, but we are even more excited for what comes after. After all, the best way to decompress and unwind after a long day of presentations and workshops is to have a big party! MAJET is really excited about this year’s theme, and we hope you are too.

So, without further ado, MAJET would like to invite you to the

Midyear Masquerade!

Your invitation to Sumo 2014 in Fukuoka!

Hakkeyoi はっけよい! *

Sumo is the national sport of Japan and there are six grand sumo tournaments each year. One of them is held here in Kyushu; specifically, in Fukuoka. While November may feel like it’s still a ways away, MAJET is extending you an invitation early to guarantee that we can get the best tickets possible to the tournament’s grand finale.

Here’s our invitation:

Let’s spend a weekend in Fukuoka!

On Saturday, November 22nd, we’ll meet in Fukuoka for dinner and a night on the town. MAJET is still finalizing the details of where we’ll be eating, but you can count on good food and drink, plus the excellent company.

Then, on Sunday the 23rd, we’ll attend the sumo tournament’s finale at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center from 1:00-6:00PM.

Aoshima Beach Barbecue and Campout!

Hey Miyazakians!

It’s that time of year again. School is getting back in swing and the summer heat is (hopefully) beginning to tone down. That also means its time for the Annual MAJET Aoshima Beach Barbecue and Campout!

Last year’s event was a smash! The weather was great, the water was warm―the sky was so clear that we were even favored with numerous meteor sightings! Let’s keep the tradition going this year!

Join MAJET at Aoshima Beach on Saturday, September 27 as we gather for one last bit of summer fun! The party will begin at 4:00pm, and we’ll get the barbecue going around 6:00pm.

There is no cost to attend this event! Just bring your lovely selves along with whatever food, drinks, and supplies you’ll need to fuel your wild beach antics. Continue reading
