Part(y)ing is such sweet sorrow…

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already! It seems like just last week were were saying goodbye, but here we are. Once again, many of our friends and coworkers will soon be heading off to their next stage and preparing to begin their next adventures. Before they go, however, join us for one last celebration and send off our friends in style! Continue reading

Let’s Support Kumamoto!

Good morning, MAJETers

As you all know, our neighbors in Kumamoto have been experiencing terrible earthquakes. We’ve felt the aftershocks ourselves, but we can’t begin to imagine what our friends near the epicenter are going through. Buildings have crumbled, roads have collapsed, even Kumamoto Castle has suffered damage as a result. But it’s not just the structures, it’s what they represent. Those buildings were homes; those roads were access to food, shelter, friends, and family; the castle is an important piece of cultural history. And none of these things can even compare to the loss loved ones and friends.

Let us all take a moment to think about those who have been affected. Continue reading

Or, maybe you just want to work on your management skills and build up your resume?

The Amazing Race- Legend of Hyuna: The Surfboard of Destiny

Hey! Listen!

The time has finally come for the Fifth Annual Amazing Race Miyazaki! This is one of our biggest events of the year. Some of you may already be familiar with the American TV show, The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race Miyazaki is loosely based around this televised competition, except that teams will follow clues which will take them to different “Quests” within the boundaries of Miyazaki City. This year, each Quest and their Clues are inspired by the world of video games, both old school and new. So hit your local arcade and get yourself ready to play. Continue reading

2016 Miyazaki Amazing Race – Call for Volunteers!

Amazing Race Header

Hello fellow Miyazakians!

We are proud to announce the Fifth Annual Amazing Race! It will be held on Saturday, April 16th in Miyazaki City this year, so mark your calendars!  We are also excited to announce this year’s theme: video games!

The Amazing Race was started by a group of ambitious JETs who came together to create an event that would combine the knowledge and intellect of both English and Japanese speakers by combining Japanese culture and a yearly theme. It’s an exhilarating event that has people from Miyazaki (and even Kumamoto, Oita, and Kagoshima!) racing around the city for the chance to win fabulous prizes, serious bragging rights, and just have an awesome time!

Foreigners and locals team up to complete themed challenges around Miyazaki City just like on the TV show. It takes a lot of planning and creativity to make it fun for all, so we are looking for as many people as we can to help out!

We are looking for 25 volunteers at this time. Please note that volunteering to help means that you cannot participate in the race as a contestant.

The volunteers will be divided up into Planning Volunteers and Day-Of Volunteers. If you are interested, you can volunteer for one or both positions.

Planning Volunteers will be the masterminds behind the event. We are looking for creative and energetic individuals to help us develop everything from challenges and tasks to artwork, designs, and even props! The time commitment for those in the planning group will span for the weeks leading up to the race and can be very flexible depending on what you are able to manage. Even if you only have a little bit of time to give but still want to help, that’s absolutely ok!

Day-Of Volunteers will be the ones running the show on the day of the race, operating stations and ensuring that the contestants are completing their tasks. The race is anticipated to run from 09:00 to 17:00 with morning/afternoon shifts to choose from. As part of our friendship with the Miyazaki International Center, there is a possibility of earning daikyuu if you volunteer the day of the race. (However, it is ultimately up to your schools to decide if they will give you daikyuu or not.)

Volunteer Now!

If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this google form by Sunday, January 31st.

Remember, volunteering means that you will not be able to participate in the race, so please consider carefully before making your decision.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test,

Your humble MAJET Team
